What are Judicial Candidate Screening Committees?
​
Judicial candidate screening committees are independent or government-appointed panels that evaluate the qualifications of judicial candidates to ensure that only the most competent and ethical individuals are appointed or elected to the bench.
​
Janice Purvis appeared before the following Screening Committees and received the following ratings:

Brooklyn Bar Association – APPROVED for the position of Judge of the Civil Court

The 6th Municipal District in Brooklyn
​
The 6th Municipal District in Brooklyn represents a specific geographical division of the Kings County Civil Court. It is the district used to elect local Civil Court judges who handle civil legal disputes involving amounts up to $50,000, including small claims, landlord-tenant matters, and consumer debt.
The 6th Municipal District maps across a dynamic cultural mosaic of neighborhoods. The District includes the following neighborhoods:

Janice lives in Crown Heights with her six year-old daughter and rescue cats. As a resident of Crown Heights for the past thirteen years (and a New Yorker for twenty-seven years), she has been very active in the community. She currently serves as Vice President of her Block Association and regularly participates in a wide range of public and community meetings and events in the area. She previously served on the Board of Friends of Brower Park.
